چکیده

Abstract. With the increasing attention on environmental flow management for maintenance of habitat diversity and ecosystem health mountain gravel-bed rivers, much interest has been paid to how inter-flood low can affect river morphodynamics during subsequent flood events. Previous research found that antecedent conditioning lead an increase in critical shear stress a reduction sediment transport rate flood. However, long this effect last event not fully discussed. In paper, series flume experiments with various durations are presented study problem. Results show channel morphology adjusts significantly within first 15 min but becomes rather stable remainder flow. The implementation indeed hydrograph, such is limited relatively short time at beginning hydrograph. This indicates bed reorganization phase, which induces history effect, likely be erased intensity event.

Sediment Transport Primer Estimating Bed-Material Transport in Gravel-bed Rivers

This primer accompanies the release of BAGS, software developed to calculate sediment transport rate in gravel-bed rivers. BAGS and other programs facilitate calculation and can reduce some errors, but cannot ensure that calculations are accurate or relevant. This primer was written to help the software user define relevant and tractable problems, select appropriate input, and interpret and app...

Variation in the reference Shields stress for bed load transport in gravel-bed streams and rivers

[1] The present study examines variations in the reference shear stress for bed load transport (tr) using coupled measurements of flow and bed load transport in 45 gravel-bed streams and rivers. The study streams encompass a wide range in bank-full discharge (1–2600 m/s), average channel gradient (0.0003–0.05), and median surface grain size (0.027–0.21 m). A bed load transport relation was form...

Sediment supply controls equilibrium channel geometry in gravel rivers.

In many gravel-bedded rivers, floods that fill the channel banks create just enough shear stress to move the median-sized gravel particles on the bed surface (D50). Because this observation is common and is supported by theory, the coincidence of bankfull flow and the incipient motion of D50 has become a commonly used assumption. However, not all natural gravel channels actually conform to this...

Equivalent roughness of gravel-bed rivers

The relation between the equivalent roughness and different grain size percentiles of the sediment in gravel-bed rivers was determined under the hypothesis that the vertical distribution of the flow velocity follows a logarithmic law. A set of 954 data points was selected from rivers with gravel size sediment or larger, with a non-sinuous alignment and free of vegetation or obstacles. According...

Uncertainties in Evaluation of the Sediment Transport Rates in Typical Coarse-Bed Rivers in Iran

Flow and sediment transport processes are different and more complex in coarse-bed rivers than in sand-bed rivers. The main goal of the present study is to evaluate different modes of sediment transport using different hydrometric and hydraulic methods, and to address the major uncertainties. Four river reaches were selected as representatives of coarse-bed rivers in the Northwest of Iran. A se...
